BOSS Daz Ekin is targeting final day glory at Wetherby on Monday (6.15pm) to set up Boroughbridge for a much improved 2008-09.
‘Bridge’s season is ending on a high after Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Whitkirk and Monday’s 3-2 comeback win against Street Work Soccer.

However, Ekin knows no silverware and seventh at best won’t do and has blamed a huge number of back-words for ‘Bri
dge’s below par year.

The boss now wants victory at Wetherby on Monday before righting the wrongs next year.

“We’re in good spirits, we’ve won one and drawn one now and if we can go to Wetherby and finish the season by getting something that would be great and give us something to look forward to next season,” he said.

“But we need to sit down and have a chat about it as this season has been unacceptable with backwords and people being unavailable.

“We need to concentrate on finding people who want to play football as we have too many little back words for little things.

“Back words are easy but we want players who want to play week in week out.”

Ekin admits he feared the worst on Saturday, visiting Whitkirk with an understrength side, but a Mark Tyson strike looked to have sealed battling ‘Bridge all three points.

Whitkirk’s Lee Wormsley struck a cruel 91st minute leveller but ‘Bridge then had their day on Monday when recovering from being 2-0 down at home to Street Work Soccer.

Alistair Hogg made some great saves to keep ‘Bridge in it and Olie Barton shouldered the ball home to give ‘Bridge hope with 15 minutes to go.

Dan Thirkell crashed home a superb volley to level matters and ‘Bridge’s Lewis Whitaker then won it with a speculative 30 yarder.

Ekin praised matchwinner Whitaker and a super game of football.

“He’s a quality player,” said Ekin.

“We’ve missed him as he’s not played the last few weekends but we had a half decent side out on Monday - the best side we’ve had out for a while.

“When we get a good squad out we are capable of getting the results.

“Monday was a cracking game.”

BOROUGHBRIDGE RESERVES ended their home campaign with a 4-2 win against Robin Hood Athletic Reserves - Tom Smith, Johnny Hunt, Tony Lavery and Andy Hall all on the mark.

On Sunday, a BOROUGHBRIDGE side featuring five 17-year-olds suffered the agony of penalties against FC boston in the final of the League Challenge Cup.

Underdogs ‘Bridge gave an excellent account, Chris Stephenson and Olie Uffindall on the mark and Uffindall missing a penalty in normal time.

Two days earlier, BOROUGHBRIDGE went goal crazy with an 8-1 win at Atlanta.

Uffindall grabbed four, with Chris Chapman, Dave Burniston, Ben Darville and Dan Saxon also on the mark.

Man of the match was Chris Stephenson.

Meanwhile, RIPON CITY ended their season on Wednesday night with a 1-1 draw at Wetherby Athletic.

Ian Edwards was on the scoresheet for Charlie Brown’s side who finish the season a comfortable six points clear of the dropzone in their first season back in the top flight.
