THE clock will be turned back more than 60 years when Ripon holds its Victory in Europe day celebrations next weekend.
Old cars, a 1940s fashion show and the replica Spitfire built by the Ripon branch of the Royal British Legion are just a few of the many attractions which will be on the market square on Saturday, May 17, from 10am-4pm.

Last year’s inaugural event was a great success as huge numbers of people packed out the square.

The highlight of the day was a fly-past by three iconic aircraft – a Lancaster Bomber, Spitfire and Hurricane – of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight which delighted the enthralled crowds.

This year’s celebrations on the square will be followed by the VE Ball, at Ripon Rugby Club, where the Palm Court Orchestra will be providing the entertainment, from 7pm.

Tickets for the ball, which include a complimentary drink plus pie and peas, cost £20 and are available from Storm in a Teacup, on Kirkgate, or by telephoning 01765 608078 or 609883.
