A VILLAGE school near Ripon is celebrating its biggest fun run and 10km race after 450 people turned out to take part in its 10th anniversary event.
The popular Grantley race, organised by Fountains Primary School, raised more than £2,800 for school funds, with £350 donated to two local charities.

As well as the 350 main runners, who came from as far as Wales and Scotland to tackle the 10km course through beautiful open countryside, around 100 children and adults of all abilities enjoyed the one-mile fun run which started and finished at the school.

One of the organisers, Annabel Andrew, said: “It was a great success, despite poor weather on the day. We had runners aged 18 to 80 in the main race and, for the first time, had to turn people away because we reached our maximum limit of 350 entrants.

“We would like to thank all those who helped, with everything from marshalling to making bacon butties and compiling results and also those who donated prizes. It is thanks to all this effort we have been able to raise so much money both for our school and for two local charities.”

Among those who donated prizes were: the Crown Inn, Roecliffe; Bleikers Smokehouse at Glasshouses; the Galphay Inn; the Malt Shovel at Brearton, and Highside Butchers, Kirkby Malzeard. Ripon Army cadets also helped with car parking.
