Don moved to Ripon from West Yorkshire with his family in 1978 and his three children were educated at Ripon Grammar School. He helped Econ Engineering establish itself as one of the city's leading businesses and was managing director for several years. He was well known in the local community and raised the profile of Ripon through Econ's national and international business.
