IT was a day to remember for young cricketers from Ripon when they got to play on the hallowed turf of Headingley – the home of Yorkshire cricket.
The team from St Wilfrid's Primary School had won through to the finals of the Drax Cup 2009, the biggest cricket competition for under-9s in the country, which was played on Sunday.

Up against some of the best school teams in the region, the St Wilfrid's youngsters put in a plucky performance to finish in fourth place.

They might not have won – that honour went to Westville House Primary School, Ilkley - but by the looks on their faces they obviously had a great time.

The finals were the culmination of a three-month competition which attracted over 300 schools from across the region.
