FUNDRAISING for a new cricket pavilion at Rainton has got off to a good start.
At a race night held by the village cricket club at the Lamb Inn, a donation of £750 from the De Grey and Ripon Lodge of Freemasons was handed over by its immediate past Master and resident of Rainton, Mike Pallett.

The club is also grateful to generous donations from Ripon Interiors, Ripon Engineering, Kingsley Webber and Insight and Kettlewell Fuels, which have done much to boost funds towards the target of £20,000.

Further fundraising events are planned throughout the season.

The club has to build the pavilion after the first team won promotion to Nidderdale League Division 2, where the requirements of the league insist that clubs provide showers for players.

Construction has started and, to save costs, players and residents of Rainton are building the new pavilion.
