Among the 12 group receiving cash at a ceremony held in the Royal Pump Room Museum at Harrogate on Wednesday were:

  • Alderman T F Spence Trustees - £200 towards raising awareness of the Quarry Moor Local Nature Reserve in Ripon

  • Masham Arts Festival - £1,000 towards promotional materials and their arts festival

  • Discovering Ripon Cathedral Community Project - £600 towards the creation of a street theatre show about St Wilfrid.

  • Coun Pat Jones, Cabinet Member for Cultural Services, who made the awards, said: "These are small grants but are valuable to the very many and willing volunteers who do so much to create opportunity for local people and visitors."
