THORNBOROUGH Festival starts today with nearly 100 acts set to perform on three stages during the three-day event.
The picturesque setting of Lime Tree Farm, at Grewelthorpe, provides the backdrop as rock acts, DJs and acoustic performers entertain revellers until Sunday.

The festival began as a way to promote the preservation of the 5,000-year-old Thornborough Henges near West Tanfield, which were at the centre of a controversy over quarrying nearby.

Organisers Darin McNulty and George Chaplin said: "We set up this festival four years ago to help the campaign to protect the North of England’s biggest megalithic site.

“We think bringing people together for a weekend of music is an excellent way of reminding people just how wonderful our local heritage is."

In addition to the musical entertainment, there will also be bars, cafes, a kids’ space, a baby and toddler area and all manner of family fun events.

Performing on the main stage tonight are 3 Foot Ninja, The Conspirators and Toyshelf. Tomorrow evening, The Mosaics, Premium Trucks and Mean Poppa Lean will be entertaining the crowds and, on Sunday, it will be the turn of Knievel and Scapegoat Kelly.

As well as the main stage, the acoustic stage and the homegrown stage will be hosting lots of talent throughout the day including open mic, poetry, clowning and puppetry sessions.

Festival tickets are £30, including camping and car parking. Tickets cost £25 if purchased after 2pm on Saturday and £10 if purchased after 11am on Sunday. Gates open today at noon.
