A VILLAGE near Ripon will be kept spick-and-span after workers from a community project in the city stepped in as parish caretakers.
Workers from the Walled Garden scheme have taken on the role of caretakers for North Stainley Parish Council – adding to the duties they already perform in Darley and West Tanfield.

The scheme, which is part of Ripon Community Link, is an established day-care provider for people with learning disabilities.

Rob Gooderidge, a co-ordinator for the project, said: "It's very important for our workers to get out into the community and for the community to see them at work."

"It promotes inclusiveness and makes the workers part of the community."

Tomorrow (Saturday, May 10), the Walled Garden will be hosting its summer open day and plant sale at its base on Palace Road, from 10am - 2pm.

Visitors will be able to choose from a good stock of bedding plants, vegetable plants, perennials, herbs, shrubs and much more. Hanging baskets and containers are also available.

There will be refreshments served throughout the day and a barbecue from noon onwards.

Entrance to the open day is free and anyone wanting more information or to check stock availability can telephone the Walled Garden on 01765 609229.
