North Yorkshire County Council and Harrogate Borough Council’s focus is often on tourism, events and money for the local economy. Many of us still question the net financial benefit calculations of such events.
It would be of interest to know how the overall financial benefits and costs of specific events are calculated and how thoroughly this is done, indeed if it is? Or are they imagined/estimated or is there misinformation given - we have a recent example of the latter. Perhaps someone from the council could explain.
The requirements to generate adequate net income is not in doubt provided it is for sensible use.
Residents “willingly” endure the disruption such events cause as they assume it is for the greater good. However it would be nice to know they are for the greater good.
One does feel the council take the residents for granted much of the time.
