Work has now started on the development of eight new homes on the site of former pub The Tree on Hookstone Chase.
Plans to build the three storey semi-detached homes were approved by Harrogate Borough Council’s planning committee in August with thirteen councillors voting in favour of it.
The first release of the spacious three bedroom properties, built by local developer Arncliffe Homes, will be priced at £299,995 and measure at 1,270 sq ft.
Coun Clare Skardon (Lib Dem) for Hookstone said that she was ‘asbolutely delighted’ with the development, claiming that the area had been ‘neglected’ for too long.
She said: “The pub has not been used for years and there were a number of problems with it so we are delighted. There was not one single objection by residents when it submitted to the council.
“The developer kept everyone informed and we are hoping that the homes are going to be affordable. The whole of Hookstone is delighted and it is great to see that they are cracking on so quickly.”
Clive Denham, from Arncliffe Homes, desribed the development of the ‘highly specified homes’ as being in a ‘fantastic residential location’ with a number of nearby local ammenities.
He said: “We are delighted to be building these superb homes in such a popular residential area of Harrogate.
“Hookstone Chase Primary School is just opposite and Harrogate Grammar and St Aidan’s schools are less than one and a half miles away.
“Plumpton Park shopping centre, which includes a Morrisons superstore, is just a few minutes’ walk from Hookstone Court and the Stray and central Harrogate are within easy reach.”
The homes will be shortly launched on to the market by Harrogate estate agent Dacre Son & Hartley with branch manager Simon Davies desribing the properties as ‘asbolutely what the market needs right now’.
Despite an agreement having to be reached by the council and developer over noise and drainage issues in August, the plans have received local backing by residents with the pub sitting vacant.
Mr Davies concluded: “New homes of this quality and at this price are very rare in Harrogate and as the sub £300,000 market continues to thrive.”
