Walk for rug charity

A Reeth woman is holding a sponsored dog walk to help raise money for her rug making charity.

Heather Ritchie, is an established maker of rag rugs and works with Rug Aid cic, an English not-for-profit social enterprise which she and two friends have et up in the Gambia. Rug Aid cic teaches some of the most deprived people in The Gambia - including many people with visual impairments and who had previously earned a living through now outlawed street begging - to make hooky rugs.

The rug makers then sell their rugs locally to tourists who visit the GOVI School, in Serrekunde, where the project is based.

The three mile sponsored Dog Walk, along the banks of the River Swale. It starts from Reeth Green on July 29 at 12pm.

Walkers meet on Reeth Green. Entry is £5, to include a packed lunch.
