Wetherby shoppers were joined by one of the town's very own TV stars for the grand opening of a new charity shop yesterday (Wednesday April 13).
Town resident and ITV Calendar presenter, Christine Talbot cut the ribbon and welcomed the first shoppers through the doors of the new Cancer Research store on Market place.
The store is the latest addition to the charity's portfolio of 590 shops nationwide and will also provide a hub of information about the charity's recent successes and real people's cancer stories.
Christine Talbot said: “I was really honoured to be asked to officially open this lovely new shop in the town where I live.
“Like most people, I have family and friends who have been touched by cancer. This is why Cancer Research UK has always been a charity close to my heart and I really admire the important work they do.
"My own experience of cancer and the treatments I was able to benefit from made me realise even more just how important research is, and how we must keep on raising the money to ensure it continues."
Open seven days a week, the shop will stock women’s, men’s and children’s fashion and accessories, along with home-ware, books, CDs and DVDs, gifts, greeting cards and toys.
The manager of the new Cancer Research UK (CRUK) shop in Wetherby, Jennifer Holloway, said: “We were delighted that Christine was able to join be part of our celebrations and be our special guest to cut the ribbon.
“Our customers will be pleasantly surprised once inside the store. They won’t believe they’re in a charity shop - it’s as shiny and professional as mainstream high street retail outlets.
“As well as being a popular tourist destination, Wetherby has a vibrant and thriving community, who we hope will shop with us, volunteer for us and donate stock for our shelves.”
The shop is also looking for volunteers to help sort donations, keep the shelves stocked and help on the shop floor. Flexible hours are available and anyone interested is invited to call into the shop to find out more.
