It’s 50 years since the Beeching Report was published which ultimately led to the closure of Ripon railway station in the 1960s.

The issue of whether Ripon should be reconnected to the railway with a new station built has prompted letters to the Gazette for and against the idea.

Some say it will be good for the city, while others argue the cost would not justify the scheme and would involve significant upheaval in surrounding areas where the line would have to be reinstated.
