Cyclist killed in collision on A19

North Yorkshire Police are appealing for information after a cyclist died near Thirsk.

At approximately 5pm on Saturday, August 18, on the A19 near Sowerby, a black Alfa Romeo 156 was in collision with a black racing pedal cycle. Both were travelling on the northbound carriageway.

The 75-year-old cyclist from Leeds was taking part in an organised time trial event. He was pronounced dead at the scene and has not yet been named. The 29-year-old man from Appleton Wiske, near Northallerton who was driving the car was not injured. We are not yet in a position to name the man who died. The road was closed until 10pm.
