A WOMAN has died and two people have been seriously injured in a road accident on the A61 near Ripley.
A 47-year-old woman from Harrogate died at the scene when her car was in collision with a silver Ford Fiesta on the A61 between Ripley and the Breaton turn-off at around 3pm yesterday, Thursday, September 8.
Firefighters from Harrogate freed two people in their late 60s from the Ford Fiesta, and both were taken to Harrogate Hospital.
A Volvo lorry was also involved in the crash and police are appealing for witnesses to help track down the driver.
Traffic Sergeant Paul Cording, of North Yorkshire Police’s Roads Policing Group, said: “I am urging all lorry drivers who were in the area around the time of the collision to check their vehicles and light clusters for any damage.
“It could be that they have been involved in the collision without realising it and they could have information vital to the investigation.
“I am urging anyone who witnessed the collision to contact the police as soon as possible.”
The A61 is currently closed at the scene of the collision and will remain closed for some time, as police work to establish the exact circumstances.
