A new initiative to get the ‘Discover Ripon Hub’ working as a united marketing machine for the city has been unveiled.
As reported in the Gazette on November 8, plans were afoot to get organisations working together as a united body in Ripon to boost trade in the city.
Following the success of the Twitter Discover Ripon hour from 8-9pm on Tuesday evenings and the Discover Ripon Youtube video – which has amassed over 1,000 hits – the city council unanimously voted for the hub to become a one-stop shop for Ripon businesses and residents.
Under new plans to use the hub as a unified marketing group, City Development Manager Angela Harris mooted the idea of using the town hall as a central location for different organisations – such as the Chamber of Trade and the Greater Ripon Improvement Partnership (GRIP) – to work together as a unified body under one roof.
Ms Harris said: “It would be good to have a visual presence in the city centre and the obvious place would be the town hall.”
Mayor of Ripon Andrew Williams supported plans to have an umbrella organisation that visitors and residents could easily locate in the city.
“In the short-term the town hall would be the obvious place and in the long-term it would be the tourist information centre,” said Coun Williams.
“If people in Ripon aren’t proud of being Riponians then it doesn’t send a positive message out to the rural hinterland.”
Ripon Cathedral’s Nick Morgan – the mastermind behind the new Twitter workshop, launched to get businesses promoting themselves on social networking sites – said: “It’s all about getting people confident on Twitter and telling them about its benefits. People not involved in commerce can get involved in the conversation.”
Coun Williams added: “In a digital era it is incredibly important that we have a strong web presence.”
