The Mayor of Ripon Coun Mick Stanley is to serve a second consecutive term as mayor following an informal meeting of councillors.
It will be the third term he has served in four years following his current spell in 2013-14 and that of 2011-12.
Coun Stanley said: “I am very honoured and pleased to have been elected again with my decided aim of seeing the City Plan to completion during the next term.”
The Mayor hit the headlines of last week’s Ripon Gazette when it was revealed Coun Stanley along will fellow independent councillor, Coun Sylvia Brierley, were joining the Conservatives after each had served as independents since 2007.
The Mayor, who first became a city councillor as a Liberal Democrat in 2003, has chosen his new political colleague, fellow Conservative Coun Mike Chambers, as his deputy for the year.
Coun Stanley is set to begin the 2014-15 term following the annual Mayor Making Ceremony in the council chamber of Ripon Town Hall on Tuesday, May 6, at 11am, when the council holds its annual meeting.
