Scores of local knitters were out in force at Richmond’s Georgian Theatre Royal, with the aim of knitting 1000 bananas!

The knitters, armed with yellow wool and needles, are knitting the bananas for The Adventures of Sinbad which starts Thursday December 8.

They travelled from around the region to create bananas to throw during the production.

They enjoyed banana cake while they worked.

Meanwhile, many people knitted at home having downloaded the pattern from the theatre’s website which is still available on the theatre’s website.

Florence Bland said, “I was on the 7.15am bus from Gunnerside to make sure I got here on time. Normally I knit squares for blankets to help the YMCA but this sounded like a bit of fun to help out the local panto.”

The theatre’s chief executive Kate Longmate said: “We have had family and friends from Hull, Worcester and even Australia joining the fun and sending bananas in!”
