It’s less than a month until the women’s and men’s Tour de Yorkshire races roll into Harrogate. We are all looking forward to seeing the race, and seeing the Harrogate district at its best on the television coverage that will be live throughout the day on ITV and Eurosport, and will also be shown in over 170 countries.

Last year showed that whatever the weather the crowds will be out in force, but we’re all hoping for less snow, and more sun this year. The Visit Harrogate team will be out along the race route on Saturday, April 29.

John is the office cycling fan, and so already has his spot picked out on Cote de Lofthouse where the climbing will see riders battle it out against the gradient as well as each other.

There will be food and refreshments on the hill and a lively atmosphere is guaranteed when such large numbers of fans assemble. He said: “I knew I’d be in Lofthouse the moment the route was announced, I’ve been waiting for the race to go up this climb since it started.”

Sarah will be in Harrogate where the Harrogate Cycling Festival will be showing the race on two big screens, and there will entertainment throughout the day. She said: “We’ll be taking our young daughter so a base with family entertainment is a key factor for us. There’s so much going on throughout the day with the racing, activities and live music we can be sure we will all have a great day.” Between the two race finishes there will entertainment and activities on and around the finish line.

The Harrogate Cycling Festival opens on Friday afternoon and will show highlights of stage one with musical entertainment and a Queen tribute stage show to kick start the evening. On Sunday as well as coverage of stage three there will be guided bike rides and other entertainment.

Helen will also be in Harrogate in the cycling festival on the Visit Harrogate stand where the team will be handing out our new mini guides and gardens guides and giving visitors all the information they need to get the most from their day.

Steve and Tracy will be in Knaresborough and Ripon, each of which has a sprint stage to add to the excitement and will be showing the whole race live on big screens with added family entertainment and attractions throughout the day.

You can find your perfect spot to view the race by picking up a copy of our Tour de Yorkshire Day Two Spectator Guide which is now in information centres around the district. You can see up to date information on what taking place all round the Tour de Yorkshire race route on www.visitharrogate.co.uk/tdy.

The weekend before the Tour de Yorkshire is one of Harrogate’s most loved and popular events, the Spring Flower Show at the Great Yorkshire Showground.

The spring show attracts over 60,000 visitors across four days from all over the country and is a great boost to businesses in Harrogate town and surrounding areas.

As one of the 500 exhibitors, Visit Harrogate will once again be flying the flag for the district encouraging visitors and locals alike to see more of the area and launching the 2017 Visit Harrogate Gardens Guide. The guide has been produced following on from last year’s successful publication and we are delighted to be once again working with our gold partners RHS Garden Harlow Carr, Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal and Beningbrough Hall, Gardens and Gallery. If you are planning on visiting the show, make sure you come say hello to us on stand GH32.
