Ripon Police Museum was given a facelift by staff from a city company. Twenty-eight employees from Wolseley spent two days at the museum tackling rust removal, metal painting and the refurbishment of the replica police box displayed in the front courtyard.
Richard Taylor, chairman of Ripon’s museums, said: “We were delighted with the help given by Wolseley’s Community Volunteering Scheme.
“They have really spruced up the front of the museum ready for the new season.
“Without volunteers like Wolseley and our 120-strong volunteer workforce, we would not be able to open our doors to visitors, residents and schools, all of which benefits the Ripon economy.”
Wolseley HR service desk advisor, Laura Gibbs, who project-managed the task said: “Our employees benefit from this community work, I think, as much as the schemes they contribute to.
“Volunteer work encourages team building and draws on skills that we wouldn’t normally use in our day-to-day jobs.
“We all enjoyed working on the museum project and we could really see the difference we had made at the end of the two days.”
The Wolseley Volunteer Partnership Scheme is organised in conjunction with Ripon Council for Voluntary Services (CVS), and offers skills, time and manpower for projects in and around Ripon that assist the local community.
