Tory joy at by-election victory

IT was a Conservative win for Knaresborough's by-election held on Thursday, July 15.

A turnout of 1,230 voters in the King James Ward saw the Conservative party win the vacant seat on Knaresborough Town Council.

The results were:

Michael Gallico – Conservative –704 (majority and elected)

Roland Trentini – Liberal Democrat – 310

Terry Maude – Bandstand/Pavilion for Knaresborough Castle Grounds – 216

The vacancy arose after Coun Lynne Lever resigned from the council in May this year.

Mr Gallico attended his first full council meeting on Monday at Knaresborough House taking his seat alongside 13 Lib Dem councillors and one other Conservative councillor making a total of 15.

All council seats will be up for re-election in 2011.
