Thousands at Ripley for Sunday show

THOUSANDS of people enjoyed Ripley Show in the sunshine last weekend - despite it being moved to a Sunday for the first time.

Livestock classes, displays of sheep dancing and duck herding, live music and refreshments kept the large crowds happy throughout the day.

Entries to the various classes were particularly high this year, prompting organisers to wonder whether a Sunday show might enable more people to take part. It had been moved this year because of a large wedding in the village on Saturday, but show secretary Marjorie Periam said the committee would have to consider whether to make the move permanent in discussion with show president Sir Thomas Ingilby, who allows use of Ripley Castle park each year

Mrs Periam added: "It went absolutely brilliantly - we had more people than usual. We had an over-spill car park which had over 500 cars in it.

"The weather was excellent because it was warm but there was a slight breeze."
