Primary schools from Northallerton and the surrounding villages have battled it out in two swimming galas.

Held at Hambleton Leisure Centre in the town, the 15 schools competed in individual and team events in freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and relays.

All eight members of each team took part in the freestyle cannon to finish the galas.

The ‘town event’ saw the six largest schools from the district compete against each other with Broomfield coming out winners on 60 points, closely followed by Applegarth on 58 points and Romanby with 51 points.

The other nine schools took part in the ‘Small Schools’ gala in which Appleton Wiske took the title with 110 points.

In second-place was Ainderby Steeple on 107 points and Aiskew and Leeming took joint-third place with 77 points each.

Organised by Hambleton Leisure Centre swimming instructor Liz Bunting, the event was supported by the leisure centre, the Area School Sports Partnership and the Allertonshire School, which provided student helpers.
