Sun shines on cyclists for charity bike ride
More than 350 cyclists enjoyed the sunshine as they took part in this year’s Great Milk (stout) Ride to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
The event, which starts and finishes in Pateley Bridge, is now in its 20th year and has raised around half a million pounds for the charity.
Chairman Mike Holt said: “It went really well. It was great – a real party atmosphere.
“The weather was fantastic, which helped bring lots of people in.”
The number of participants tackling the three routes – covering 10, 20 or 28 miles – was up on last year, while around 600 people came to Bewerley Park to enjoy wine, burgers, a raffle and music from Ade Payne, Pateley’s Mike Perry and The Timewarp.
All the money raised from the day goes to Macmillan.
Mr Holt said: “Cancer is something that has affected most people to some extent. Most people know a friend or a family member who has had cancer, so it’s a cause close to people’s hearts.”
The organisers were hoping to raise more than £50,000 this year, taking their all-time total past the £500,000 mark.
They will find out if that has been achieved shortly before the presentation evening at Harefield Hall in Pateley Bridge on November 16.
