Staff from a leading Ripon based company are tackling a gruelling cycle ride for charity.

Twelve Wolseley UK workers will be taking part in the Morecombe to Bridlington coast-to- coast route next month.

Known as The Way of the Roses as it runs from the red rose of Lancashire to the white rose of Yorkshire, the cyclists will take on the 170 mile route to raise money for three charities.

Staff from both the Ripon offices and Melmerby warehouse are in training and hope to raise money for Sport Relief, Scuba Diving For All and Saint Michael’s Hospice. All money raised will be split between the charities.

Organiser, Mujtaba Abbas from Ripon said: “We are all quite keen cyclists and normally tackling the coast to coast wouldn’t be too taxing for us but to do it in March when the weather could be anything between 20˚ and -15˚ certainly gives the challenge more of an edge!”

The Wolseley team also wanted to thank John Smith’s Coaches in Thirsk, who are helping them with transport to and from the start and finish points and also Ripon’s Moonglu biking shop on Blossomgate, Ripon.

The riders are still looking for sponsorship, no matter how small and Mujtaba said: “We’d really like the public to get behind us and would really appreciate their support.

“Even a pledge of just £2 would be gratefully received and it’s easy to do by going to our giving page at www.charitygiving.co.uk/WUKC2C

“Any cash donations would be very welcome at our reception on Boroughbridge Road if anyone would like to call in and ask for me or any of the coast to coast team.”
