FOOTBALLERS from RAF Leeming have taken on stars from TV soap Emmerdale in a soccer match raising money for charity.

The North Yorkshire military station sent their best players – fronted by the Station Commander, Grp Capt Tony Innes, to Garforth Town FC’s pitch near Leeds to test their footie skills against the ITV1 actors.

Ticket sales and other events on the day raised £700 for the Royal Air Force Association (RAFA), with the Leeming team winning 5-0 against the Emmerdale team – which included actors James Hooton (aka Sam Dingle) Danny Miller (Aaron Livesy) and Kelvin Fletcher (Andy Sugden).

James said: “We originally formed a team from the cast and crew because we received quite a few requests to play in charity matches.

“We are always happy to support any events like this and get involved if asked.”

The £700 raised will help RAFA provide vital support to serving and former members of the Royal Air Force and their families.

Sqn Ldr Tats Tatters, who is RAF Leeming’s Liaison Officer for RAFA and who also played in the match, said: “The event was a great success in raising the profile of RAFA.

“Our thanks must go to the Emmerdale team and the staff of Garforth Town FC for providing an excellent venue and making everyone welcome.”
