Scotton and Lingerfield area news

Village Clean Up Day: Don't forget this tomorrow, March 6. If it is awful weather, no-one is expected to be out grass cutting, sweeping pavements or litter picking. We will still be cleaning inside Church (and Chapel if we are needed) but will do the other jobs on the first decent Saturday morning. Do phone me if you are unsure of times/places etc. Refreshments will be provided at 11am in Church. (We may get our picture in the paper too so the more the merrier!)

Parish Council: Our councillors were delighted with the response at the recent meeting to show the proposed traffic calming methods. All comments have been collated and passed on to the Highways Department for their perusal and a meeting is being scheduled to see the sites concerned and address any issues.

The next Parish Council meeting will be held on Monday, March 8 at 7pm in the village hall committee room. All are welcome to attend

Scotton Lingerfield Primary School: The children are collecting store vouchers from Sainsburys Active Kids and Flora towards more sports equipment and would be very grateful for any contributions. Vouchers may be posted at school or given to any of the children you may see going by in their distinctive bright blue sweatshirts.

If you fancy going into school but don't actually know anyone there, you will be made most welcome at the Friday Celebration assembly held weekly at 3.10pm. This is a lovely informal assembly attended by the whole school and we villagers are included in that special family.

Mothers’ Union: Members enjoyed last week’s belated Christmas lunch and are looking forward to an enjoyable meeting on Monday, March 8 at 1.45pm at Scotton Village Hall in the company of Canon Peter Midwood. This is the first meeting of the year proper and new members will be 'warmly welcomed. You don't need to be a mother or even female ... just with a wish to promote family life underpinned by Christian values. Why not come along and meet everyone? Meetings are held on the second Monday of each month usually with a speaker who are always most interesting. There is an annual summer outing, good refreshments and a genuine feeling of warmth and friendship.

Guy Fawkes Arms: A reminder from David and Antonio that bookings are filling up fast for Mothers Day on March 14. If you haven't already arranged a table, you are strongly advised to telephone them on 01423 862225 and they will do their best to fit you in.

Scotton, Lingerfield and Farnham Sunday Club: The next meeting is on Sunday, March 7 in Chapel at 9.30am. The young people are learning about life in the time of Jesus and how very different it was. New members are welcome anytime. contact Kate on 01423 522526 or email westwindgreen@aol.com for further details.

Lent Meeting: Next week’s meeting looking at the Lord's Prayer will be held on Wednesday, March 10 at 1.30pm at Sunnybank, Havikil Lane.

Church Services: On Sunday, March 7, which is the 3rd Sunday of Lent, there will be a 9.30am Eucharist at St Thomas's Church and a 10am service at Scotton Methodist Chapel with Leader and Preacher Mr E Robertson. A warm welcome will be extended to all.
