Open gardens at hall raise £10,000 for charities
MORE than 2,700 visitors enjoyed the Open Gardens day held last weekend at Goldsborough Hall.
The event, organised for the National Garden Scheme, also helped raise over 10,000 for the Macmillan Nurses and Marie Curie Cancer charities.
Performing the official opening on Sunday, Elizabeth Balmforth, curator at RHS Harlow Carr gardens, said: “I was absolutely thrilled when the owners of Goldsborough Hall, Mark and Clare Oglesby, asked me to open the gardens.
“The Oglesbys have left a legacy for future generations to inspire and educate people both historically and horticulturally.
“They have brought the gardens back to life for people to enjoy and have also raised money for a fantastic cause.”
Visitors enjoyed strolling round the grounds of the Hall which include the Gertrude Jeykll gardens and famed Lime Tree Walk, as well as treating themselves to light lunches and cream teas served in the main house.
“We’re absolutely delighted that we have raised such a huge amount of money for the NGS, nearly doubling the amount of money that we took at our preview event in March,“ said Mark. “We’d also like to thank the village for their support, especially local farmers John Paxton and Mark Voakes who loaned fields for parking, which enabled so many people to visit the gardens.”
The Oglesbys have spent the last five years restoring the stately home to its former glory.
It boasts six luxurious bedroom suites and was rated by The Times as one of the ‘Top 20 places to stay with gardens’.
