Ninth marathon challenge for Gary

A runner from Burton Leonard will be tackling the Edinburgh Marathon for the ninth time.
GARY Wilkes is running the marathon at the end of May to raise funds for a charity close to his heart.
The 39-year-old has been supporting Meningitis Research Foundation (MRF) since 1994 in memory of his young cousin Martin Duck.
Martin was four-years-old when he died from meningitis and septicaemia.
“I’ve done a number of runs for MRF since Martin died,” said Gary.
“It was such a shock for the whole family and happened so quickly.
“He had been ill for a while with flu like symptoms and then a rash appeared and he was taken to hospital but it was too late and there was nothing the doctors could do to save him.”
Gary is hoping to raise £500 for the charity.
Genna Vizard, community fundraising officer for MRF said: “We are so grateful to Gary for taking part in the Edinburgh Marathon and raising money on our behalf.
“Young children are still developing their immune systems so they are more likely to be infected with meningitis and septicaemia than older children and adults.”
