Nidderdale man’s show tribute

A retired builder has presented the Nidderdale Show with a “magnificant” stone carving in tribute to the popular event.

Carl Foxton, who has attended the show for 70 years – only missing three years during his conscription for National Service – worked on the artwork in secret before giving a photograph of the artwork to show director and friend Joe Stoney who said:

“There was no hesitation to say yes, the only deliberation was where to put it. We were all so pleased with the carving and wanted it somewhere where everyone could see it”.

Organisers have unveiled the artwork at the entrance of the showground with Mr Foxton, pictured second left with Sue Monk, Alan Firth, Joe Stoney and, behind, Derek Harker.

Society President Alan Firth said: “This plaque depicts all the aspects of our show and is a remarkable display of craftsmanship. I’m sure all the Society will will be honoured and delighted with Carl’s gift to us and I am looking forward to all of our visitors to the show on September 24 being greeted with such a warm welcome”.
