Knaresborough suffers terrible flooding

Waiting for Video...

Knaresborough residents were evacuated from their homes and parts of the town were underwater after torrential rain brought floods and disruptions to North Yorkshire.

Six residents of a caravan park left their homes as flood waters rose on Tuesday, September 25, and took refuge in Knaresborough House, operating as a rest centre manned by volunteers, but were evacuated again to bed and breakfast accommodationwhen bad weather caused a fire alarm to sound in the building.

Firefighters have been called to hundreds of incidents since bad weather hit, as more than a month’s worth of rain fell in two days in the county.

The Environment Agency issued flood warnings for the River Nidd in Knaresborough, but they were stood down at around 1.45pm on Wednesday.

Manor Road children’s centre was forced to stay closed on Wednesday after flood waters caused problems with the building’s boiler.
