Fiona Pepper and Doreen Armitage gave entertaining accounts of their May trip to Denman College; Fiona doing Houses and Gardens and Doreen taking a Music course. Ann Walker then accompanied Doreen on the piano to the singing of ‘Butterfly,’ which was appreciated by all.
It was announced that the forthcoming Strawberry Tea in July will need flowers bringing and cakes provided, and helpers. Ian Harris will be providing musical entertainment.
As Ripley Show falls before our August meeting, members were encouraged to bring produce and crafts to the July meeting for appraisal.
The Nidd Valley group walk on June 11 from Warsill was enjoyed by those who went, and there was a lovely supper.
Our president welcomed the speaker for the evening, Mr Luckett. The title of his talk, ‘Acid-faced virgins,’ is a quote from The Big Sleep by Raymond Chandler and refers to the dour librarians of old!
Mr Luckett was one of the principal librarians for Leeds Public Libraries, and had travelled to other libraries, including one in a prison.
His imaginative and humorous retelling of some of his experiences and some unknown aspects of librarianship was met with a lot of laughter!
Killinghall WI’s next meeting will be on Thursday, July 10, 7.30pm, in the Village Hall, when we will be delighted to have as our speaker, Marion St Quinton, who cycled around Cuba for Denman college. Visitors are most welcome.
