Ken Livingstone to speak in Harrogate

Veteran Labour politician Ken Livingstone will be the speaker at the next event held by the Harrogate Business Luncheon Club, to be held on Friday, February 1, at Pavilions of Harrogate.

Mr Livingstone was the leader of the Greater London Council from 1981 to 1986 and became the first elected Mayor of London in 2000, remaining in post until ousted by his nemesis, Boris Johnson, in 2008.

He is credited with initiating improvements in energy-saving, recycling and civil rights policy in the capital.

He also initiated and oversaw London’s winning bid to host the 2012 Olympics, but recently turned down a CBE in recognition of his role in its success.

The event is organised by accountancy firm Howard Matthews Partnership and sponsored by Harrogate Media.

Tickets are available for £35 or £350 for a table of 10. Drinks will be available from 11.45am with the lunch commencing at 12.30pm and finishing at 2.30pm prompt.

Early booking is recommended.
