History brought to life at Cathedral fair

THE days of knights in armour and wandering minstrels were brought alive when Ripon Cathedral held its annual Medieval Fair at the weekend.

Visitors packed the cathedral on Saturday to see attractions such as medieval musicians Hautbois performing music inspired by the era on period instruments, a birds of prey display, plus knights fighting on the forecourt,

Other activities included archaeology for children, brass rubbing, monastic sign language for adults, a stained glass window craft table for children, medieval Marian poetry for adults, and quill writing.

There was also calligraphy with the North Yorkshire Calligraphers, medieval needlework demonstrations, medieval table games, tattoos and face-painting.
