Heavy rain brings flash flooding in Masham and villages
Firefighters were called to homes and properties around Ripon hit by flash flooding at the weekend.
With heavy downpours in the district, crews were called out to homes in Little Ouseburn, Kirkby Malzeard, Grewelthorpe, and Catterick Garrison.
At around 11pm on Saturday, August 4, the Masham fire crew was called to Grewelthorpe where the kitchen of a home on the main street was under 2ft of water.
Earlier that day the Masham crew has also rescued a car stuck in flood waters on Thorpe Road, Masham, while fire engines from Boroughbridge and Knaresborough were called to a flooded property in Little Ouseburn, and a Ripon based crew used light portable pumps to clear water from several flooded homes in Kirkby Malzeard.
The following day, Saturday, August 5 the fire service took 20 calls to flooded homes around Masham, Colburn and Leyburn.
Drier weather is forecast towards the end of the week.
