‘Healthy Ripon’ launch
Ripon Community Hospital.
A new health review strategy has been set up to help secure the future of Ripon Community Hospital.
Healthy Ripon has been ushered in by health bosses to determine changes at the hospital before North Yorkshire and York Primary Care Trust (PCT) consultation proposals are published in the next six to nine weeks.
And councillors are assuring Ripon residents the new health committee will secure the futureof the hospital as a health facility.
Coun Stuart Martin, who represents Ripon as a governor on Harrogate Hospital Foundation Trust, said: “It’s been set up to keep the hospital itself secure. Some of the services will have to change but the hospital as a health facility is secure.
“Healthy Ripon is integral in working to really identify which services in the hospital will change and how the hospital will move forward.”
Coun Bernard Bateman said:“It’s about safeguarding Ripon hospital and looking at how to deliver more services, not cutting services – that’s really important.”
The future of services at the hospital was plunged into further doubt last month when health bosses at a PCT meeting failed to reveal which services in Ripon would be reconfigured following an earlier announcment last year.
NHS boss Richard Ord told the Gazette after the meeting there would be a review of “all health facilities in Ripon”.
