Golf challenge raises £5,000 for Ryan Seeber

THE annual Figs Golf Challenge managed to raise more than £5,000 this year.
Now in its fourth year, the event at Harrogate Golf Club has raised more than £20,000 for local causes, including Martin House Children’s Hospice, the Aidan Jude Wray Trust, the special care baby unit at Harrogate Hospital and Saint Michael’s Hospice.
This year money was raised for Ryan Seeber, a young boy form Harrogate who suffers from Hunter Syndrome, a rare genetic disorder.
The challenge is organised by a group of friends in memory of their golfing buddy Phillip ‘Figs’ Latty, who died in September 2008.
Fig’s wife Karen said: “We try to help people locally who are very ill and need support. This year we are raising money for Ryan, who has a severe form of Hunter’s and can no longer eat, drink, talk or walk.
“It is a life-limiting degenerative disorder that causes progressive physical and learning disabilities. It’s heart-wrenching.”
Money was raised through a raffle and an auction. The most popular item was an ‘old boys of Leeds United’ shirt signed by the entire 1972 cup final team.
