High water levels in Boroughbridge last year

The Environment Agency has issued a flood warning for Boroughbridge, Masham and Ripon Racecourse after severe rainfall across Ripon.

The current level at Boroughbridge is 15m and a flood warning has been issued for the River Ure at Roecliffe Caravan Park.

Masham and Ripon Racecourse are also on flood warning.

At 10.00am the current levels in Ripon and at the Old Mill in Masham measured 3m and were expected to rise further with more rain forecast throughout the day.

A flood alert has been issued for low-lying land including agricultural land and local roads surrounding Lower Dunsforth, Aldborough and Bishop Monkton at the low River Ure.

A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police said: “Please take extra care while driving today. Road conditions are poor so give yourself more time for your journeys.”
