End of an era as Enid says farewell after 40 years

THE end of the summer term marked the end of an era when Knaresborough lady, Enid Leaver retired from looking after and running the Trinity Tiny Tots group which used to be held in Holy Trinity Church Hall.

Enid, who has devoted the last 40 years of her life to enriching the lives of the children in her care, was instrumental in setting up Knaresborough's first playgroup around 40 years ago at St John's Parish Church. Around 15 years later, she started her own playgroup on Scriven Road and for many years, also helped run St John's Sunday School.

Since 1993, Enid continued her own playgroup when she moved to Holy Trinity Church to start the popular Trinity Tiny Tots group.

“Enid has touched the hearts of many young children over the years, many of whom are now grown up,” said Samantha Triano, one of the mums from Tiny Tots. “She has been an inspiration to children and parents alike during her 17 years at the playgroup.

“We all have very fond memories of her happy, smiling welcome every Wednesday afternoon, and the special bonds that have been created there have made Tiny Tots unique.”

Samantha added that Enid always created a fun-filled atmosphere for her young charges, complete with singing, painting and countless other activities over the years.

Particularly special were the special Christmas parties when Santa Claus made an appearance and no child was ever allowed to go home empty-handed!

“Above all, she created a safe and happy environment for children and it was always a great place for parents to relax and meet new friends,” said Samantha. “We will all miss Enid and Tiny Tots playgroup very much. This marks the end of a very special era.

“On behalf of everyone who has had the pleasure of Enid’s company over the years, we wish her all the very best on her well-deserved retirement.”

l Holy Trinity Church would welcome all families to its All-Age Service held on the second Sunday of the month.
