Elderly woman dead after Ripon road crash

An elderly woman has died after a collision on the Ripon bypass.

Police have confirmed that a 74-year-old pedestrian died on Sunday, January 22 in Leeds General Infirmary.

The woman - from Sharow - was hit by a black Vauxhall Corsa while trying to cross the A61 towards Sharow at Hutton Bank on Monday, January 9.

She was airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary with serious head injuries, but later died.

Officers are still investigating the crash and want to speak to two potentially vital witnesses.

Police believe the drivers of a cream-coloured car, which was in front of the Corsa, and a small red hatchback directly behind the Corsa, may have information which could help with their enquiries.

Officers are appealing for the drivers of those vehicles and any other witnesses to come forward as soon as possible.

Anyone who can help the police is urged to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101 – select option 2 – and ask for the officer in the case, Traffic Constable Steve Wood, quoting reference number 12120004660.
