Council chamber caught on camera

IT’S the news that all council fans have been waiting for - cameras are now allowed in the chamber at Crescent Gardens for the first time.

Want to snap a shot of your favourite councillor? Grab an MP3 of the budget meeting so you can re-listen to it at leisure? Shoot a film set around an Overview and Scrutiny Commission meeting?

Now you can.

Providing you get permission first.

Amazingly, some councillors aren’t convinced that members of the public will take full advantage of the rule-change.

When the decision was made in December, Coun Andrew Williams pointed at the empty seats behind him, saying sardonically: “You can see how interested they are by the thousands of people behind me clamouring to get into the council chamber.”

But the Advertiser goes to council meetings so you don’t have to, and had a photographer at the first multimedia meeting to capture pictures of councillors talking. And listening. And also reading.

The full spread is in this week’s paper, but here’s a little taster.

That's no doubt the worst news ever for HBC - maybe they'll turn up to meetings wearing balaclavas!!! btw are the 3 in the photo actually councillors or has someone put in a police ID parade for a laugh.
