Commuters face long delays

Commuters faced long delays into Harrogate this morning after the A61 Harrogate Road was closed in both directions due to a diesel spill.

Traffic built in both directions between the A659 Otley Road junction and the Weeton Lane junction, because of the spillage of diesel on the road.

A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police said a ‘considerable’ amount of oil had spilled onto the road at around 5.40am this morning.

A motorcyclist came off his bike at around 6.10am but was uninjured, a spokesman for North Yorkshire Police said.

North Yorkshire Police were at the scene along with Highways officials who cleared up the spill.

The road is expected to be closed for a further two hours.

Updated: This road is now clear.
