City to show what it has to offer on special day
RIPON will celebrate its individuality at a special event taking place next weekend.
The fourth 'Discover Ripon and Ripon Independents' Day' on Saturday, July 11, will give everyone an opportunity to find out what the city has to offer.
Combined with 'Ripon Independents' Day', which celebrates the wide variety of independent businesses in the city, 'Discover Ripon Day' includes specially organised tours and talks that take in Ripon's primary attractions.
They include 'silver talks' in the town hall, when the Ripon Hornblower and Bellman will explain their historic roles and there is a chance to see the city's collection of civic silver.

There are guided tours of the cathedral and entry to the Courthouse and Prison and Police Museums. Tickets that include the cathedral tour and the two museums are 5, children free, a saving on normal admission charges. They will be sold on the Market Square from 10.30am and a limited number of tickets will also include the silver talk – first come first served. The silver talks are at 11.15am and noon and the cathedral tours are hourly between 11.30am and 2.30pm.
The official opening will be at 11am, when the Mayor of Ripon, Coun David Parnaby, will be joined by civic leaders from Boroughbridge, Harrogate, Knaresborough and Pateley Bridge.

Throughout the day Ripon Grammar School Band will be playing on the Market Square and there will be children's activities.
Ripon City Manager, Eamon Hannaway said: "For the last three years 'Discover Ripon Day' has proved that the city can attract lots of people who are keen to find out what our city has to offer.
"The City Partnership is pleased to have joined forces with the Independent Traders' Association for this year's event, which promises once again to be a day of fun for everyone, with some surprises along the way. We look forward to welcoming residents of the city and lots of visitors on July 11."
