Childminding link to sex charges man

A RIPON childminding premises has been closed down as a man connected with it has appeared in court on child sex offence charges.

Matias Manzano-Miranda, 52, from Ripon, appeared at Harrogate Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, April 24, where he faced three separate charges.

A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police confirmed a man has been arrested and charged with offences in respect of three young children by a man linked with childminding premises.

Officers are currently investigating the reported sexual offences, he added.

Families whose children may have been at the childminder’s, which has not been named, during the last five years are all being contacted by police officers, as well as those whose children currently attend the premises, the spokesman added.

A police statement said officers are working with North Yorkshire County Council’s Children and Young People’s Service to ensure that all necessary support is available.

Similarly, officers and staff from the local authority are in full discussions with the schools inspectorate OFSTED regarding any relevant child protection issues.

Action has already been taken to ensure the provision of childminding at the premises involved is not continuing, the statement added.

A county council spokeswoman said the council could not add to the police statement on the case.

Manzano-Miranda is currently remanded in custody after his appearance at Harrogate Magistrates’ Court. He is due to reappear at the same court on Tuesday, May 1.
