A silver cross and a pair of valauble silver candlesticks on loan from Ripon Cathedral were snatched in an overnight burglary at a remote medieval house in Ripon.

A silver gondola-shaped toast rack and cash were also taken from Markenfield Hall between Sunday, January 6 and Monday, January 7.

PC Chris Hind, of Harrogate CID, said: “This burglary occurred in a fairly remote location, so any sightings of suspicious people or vehicles could be vital to the investigation.

“The items stolen are extremely difficult to replace and are hold great value to the owners of the hall and of course to Ripon Cathedral.

“If you have any information that can help with our enquiries or have been offered the stolen items for sale, please contact the police or Crimestoppers as soon as possible.”

Officers are now appealing to anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area at the time of the burglary or has any other information to get in touch.

Contact North Yorkshire Police on 101 – select option 2 – and ask for Chris Hind or Harrogate CID.

If you wish to remain anonymous, you can contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
