Barnardo's school gets garden makeover

PUPILS at Barnardo's Spring Hill School in Ripon have seen their school garden transformed, thanks to the efforts of 70 staff from First Direct.

Trina Naylor, from Barnardo's, said: "Spring Hill School has more than 20 acres of land, but it's difficult to maintain those grounds."

Following an appeal for help to cut back trees and bushes, staff from First Direct stepped into the breach, using the event as a team building challenge.

"It was absolutely brilliant," said Trina. "They achieved everything that they wanted to - they got loads done and had a really terrific day."

Jo Hewitt from Barnardo's Yorkshire said it was the first time that such a large group from an outside organisation had completed a challenge for the charity in the area.

The Barnardo's school caters for young people aged nine to 19 who have moderate to severe learning difficulties and challenging behaviour and currently has 32 pupils.
