Allotments boost for town

KNARESBOROUGH Town Council has acquired new land for allotments.

The council successfully bid at auction for a three-acre field, close to the Beryl Burton cycleway, within Knaresborough and has vehicle access off Bilton Hall Drive.

The field, which cost 32,500, will provide about 80 to 100 plots, and will be in addition to the current allotment holding on Stockwell Road.

The Council’s Allotment Working Group met earlier this week to discuss how to turn the field into allotments and prepare it for use. It is hoped the land will be ready by January.

There is an extensive waiting list for allotments in Knaresborough. Details about how to apply for one of the new plots will be published in the Knaresborough Post shortly.
