Canals and their stories will be the subject of the next meeting of Ripon Civic Society.
Group member Richard Willis – who runs Ripon Scenic Cruises on Ripon Canal and the River Ure – will give a talk entitled ‘Wonders of the Waterways’ at Allhallowgate Methodist Church Hall, on Victoria Grove, on Thursday, May 5, at 7.30pm.
This talk replaces the planned one on Harrogate Inns by Malcolm Neesam.
Society chairman David Winpenny said: “It’s good to have talks from our knowledgeable members and Richard’s talk will open our eyes to the fascinating story of our inland waterways.”
Admission for non-members is £2.
• This is the last of the society’s meetings before the summer break. The programme resumes on Thursday, September 8, with Gillian Hovell speaking about archaeology in a talk entitiled ‘A Muddy History of Britain – a local view’.
