A POLICE officer from Ripon has been given a commendation for displaying commitment, dedication, leadership and personal responsibility.
PC Richard Storr, based at the city’s station, has been given the Director’s Commendation following an incident in Ripon in the summer.
On July 31, PC Storr arrested a repeat and drunken violent offender in Ripon for breach of his Anti-Social Behaviour Order (ASBO)
The offender resisted arrest and after being transported to Harrogate polce station appeared to have calmed down.
But while being booked into custody, the man punched PC Storr in the face, knocking him unconscious.
PC Storr was taken to hospital, where X-rays showed there were no fractures or permanent damage and he returned to work, rather than finishing early as would normally be expected.
Chf Supt Ali Higgins said: “His actions demonstrate admirable personal characteristics and show the police service in its very best light.”
